Looks like AUO is getting close to releasing its e-reader based on SIPIX technology. Finally an e-reader that doesn't use E Ink Technoloyg!

I had heard on the grapevine that they should be releasing commercial products in the final quarter this year.

This just in:
"AU Optronics (AUO) president and CEO LJ Chen has indicated that LCD panel maker is working with e-book vendors in Japan and China and will start shipping e-paper to them in the second half of 2009."

Interesting. I'm curious as to how they will use the technology for colour as it doesn't really lend itself to coloured concept easily due to the dyed fluid. I'd also like to know how they overcame the problems of manufacturing the films - the major problem is that filling cups and then putting the front of the display over that meant lots of air bubbles were trapped. I guess they do it a different way or don't use the "cups" anymore.

good question. I'm doubtful their color e-paper will look good. If they plan on releasing it in 2010, that will be at the same time E Ink introduces their first color e-paper display.
