Mary Lou Jepsen, former technology director for One Laptop Per Child project, says that she has the technology that is somewhat a hybrid of LCD screens (for great color) and e-paper (for low price and eco-friendliness)

Jepsen also says that they are working on a new display that removes the backlights from laptops, but reads more like e-paper to me.

    What do you think:

I think Computerworld just doesn't want to admit that they are indeed looking at another more advanced version of e-Paper, if nothing else.

Jepsen makes some uncanny predictions, I like her forecast that technology in the future would be comprised mostly or focused on the screen (she cites cloud computing as an example, with cloud computing, all you need is the screen, the keyboard and a transceiver... no more cpus!)

I think this article is important in telling us one thing: we are way behind projections, in terms of the availability and cost of new e-paper technology. Jepsen laments that these devices should be in mass production by now, not specialized devices that they are currently.

That's what I was thinking. The way they described it, it's like they're describing e-paper, but didn't mention it.

Which places a higher pressure on e-paper manufacturers. The thing is, the demand is there, it's just a matter of getting the products out. I agree with Jepsen... all we need is the screen, some form of Internet connectivity and we can do our work... even on the throne :)
