    Hi!
I wondered if one can use an off-the-shelf e-reader as a display (or terminal) for another computer, to solve once and for all the eyestrain problem in the world :)). That is, telnet, SSH, or even VNC -ing from the e-paper device to the other (Linux) host.
The e-reader should allow custom connections over USB, and then there is the problem with the refresh rate.
iRex Iliad has an open-source SDK, but at 700$ it's a bit too expensive. Maybe OpenInkpot on some cheaper device (for ex. Hanlin)?
Do you think it is at all possible?
    Any help is appreciated.

I don't know about current off-shelf products, but it seems that PixelQi is working on a computer screen that will solve your problem.
In a few months time you probably can buy a laptop/tablet with their screen technology, which will enable you to swtich between backlight LDC mode and the relfective e-paper mode. In this case, it is probably even a better solution for you! no need to buy another gatget and connect, just simply switch your screen when your eyes hurts~
