Will e-paper replace traditional newspapers?

I think it will. For one the production cost of a daily is quite high. e-paper on the other hand involves only the initial cost of the device... the variable overhead of updating the information is very minimal.

I think it won't. For the same reason that people have actually gotten used to flipping through newspaper pages, like they do with books. There's a certain kind of enjoyment from that

I remember when online versions of popular dailies came out, people were predicting that print versions of newspapers would soon be phased out. It's been more than 10 years and that didn't happen. So I'm thinking that there would be print versions, online versions and e-paper versions. It's just a matter of what people would go and buy.

Hmmn... what people don't realize is that these e-paper readers are actually quite addictive to use. I mean, it's basically so easy and so light that you can practically carry it everywhere, as opposed to having a laptop. Also with e-paper, you can get breaking news on youe e-paper device... so that would add some value to the new technology

I agree. I also think that it's more cumbersome to read from a desktop or laptop monitor... e-paper readers are much better on the eyes and as you've pointed out, they're lighter than laptops.

You're discounting the fact that newspapers in print have been around for so long, that many people have been used to it, and can't think of any other way than to read it on a piece a paper.

My suggestion for newspapers is to have both paper and e-paper versions every single day. This would help their readers get used to the concept of e-papers... In time, when the uptake for the e-paper version is much greater, maybe they should phase out the paper versions by then.

Hmmmn... you people forgot that the reason why newspapers are now looking at an e-paper format is because they are financially in trouble and they need to find ways to cut costs. It's not a matter of what medium they're going to use, it's a matter of survival and financial viability.

so it's not a matter of business expansion. It's either they go do this or they go out of business.
