Yeah, I wonder how fast the battery will drain with that LCD on. Although the screen is small, I foresee color video and pictures being included with future books, especially with "how to" educational books. We'll see how they do.

The second screen is a good way to bring color to ereaders. I just can’t see it being used all that much when you are reading. I would also imagine that it would drain the battery more quickly that the readers with just an eink screen. It is good to see something new though.

One more point on the Kindle. I agree with you, although most laymen users are not aware of all the e-reader options out there on the market. It seems like *everyone* knows about the kindle, and much less know about the sony. I think Sony needs to be more aggressive in their marketing to promote their new e-reader and gain additional market share. I am really looking forward to barnes&nobles oct 20th e-reader announcement - this e-reader will be beautiful!

I think you are going to see Sony starting to capture more of the market in the next year. Their new pocket editions are priced much lower than anything Amazon has. I can see consumers being in more in favor of open formats over proprietary ones. Take a look at what has happened to digital music.

I guess Amazon has both the first mover advantage as well as with an omnipresent online store, they have got the branding perfect. Ultimately, it has always been my perception that it is more about marketing a product rather than awesome technologies..Nobody thinks they need an ereader till they are marketed one..

That's incredible! I guess it is all about dominating the distribution channel. The interesting thing is that Sony's e-reader supports open source ebook formats and their e-readers are generally more advanced (latest one has a touch screen). Do you think this the release of the upcoming Plastic Logic e-reader will change the US Market dramatically?
