The newsboy e-reader by Swedish design studio Propeller (see bottom of post for full credit info) is the best color e-reader concept design I have seen thus far. Three videos have been released that demonstrate what the e-reader of the future might look like. Its e-paper touch screen displays in full color and it is flexible. While most concept designs only show a 3d still of a product, Propeller has taken it a step further by demonstrating how it would function. I absolutely love that the designers spent time demonstrating what good usability would be like for an e-reader. The Kindle can learn from this!
We envisioned a display that’s thin, flexible and almost weightless, and that feels friendly and non-technical. The graphic expression is clean and light, and you can skim through it just like a regular newspaper. But with Newsboy, you can also adjust the size of the content, surf the Internet and use email.
An e-reader with these qualities is not far fetched - we’ll probably see something like this released to the consumer market by 2011. In the meantime, you can enjoy these short films demonstrating the e-reader of the future.
