The Cybook Gen 3 has a large selection of ebook formats that it can read. While the resolution is about half the clarity of similarly priced e-readers, it does have the benefit of being able to sync magazine, blog and newspaper feeds for easy reading on the go. The interface is a square joystick that lets you browse between menus and your collections of books and MP3 files.

Bookeen is okay for the price. It’s portable, and I find it so much easier to read on it than on a computer screen. But after comparing the one I bought to my friend’s Kindle, I can’t help but feel envy. The bookeen makes it hard to find my books, since there are no folder support. I can’t just order wherever I want, since there is no wifi support.

If you want a small ereader with a clear screen that’s not knock your socks off amazing, this will get the job done for an okay price. But I would wait for a year or so for a better model to come out.

This thing is great- I can store like a million books on it, and it didn’t cost me that much at all. I love reading classic books, and I could store like a ton on here and it didn’t cost me anything, since they’re all public domain. If I would’ve bought these in a store, they would’ve cost me a fortune!

And it’s super portable, too. A whole library in my hop pocket.

Meh. I read a lot of stuff on my computer, and thought this would be easier on the eyes. It is, but I miss doing all that extra stuff on the go, so I end up taking my laptop anyway.

I got this a little while ago and couldn’t be happier. The screen is clear and sharp and things work very well. It does have some problems- like, make sure you use the correct font for reading, or it will lock up and crash the ereader and you’ll loose your place in your book. It also doesn’t support everything from the Suvudu free library…but that’s a minor gripe. Other than that, this rocks.

Well, you know what they say, you get what you pay for. I wanted to skimp on a next gen ereader, and I should’ve spent my money on a PRS 505 instead. Sure it’s old tech, but it couldn’t be any worse than this.

Even though it does what it’s supposed to- read books without glare and in a paper like environment- it’s also got a ton of bugs that make it almost unusable.

For example, it crashes and locks up on me once a day, making me reset and lose my place. Wouldn’t be that bad if the books had page numbers on them, but they don’t. Instead you have a status bar that tells you how far you’re in, which isn’t helpful for finding your place.

It also displays a lot of the books kinda weird. Like not, unreadable, but things just don’t flow right. I’m not super happy with this, and I’ll probably be trading it in for a Sony.

I bought a Cybook Gen 3 from Books on Board in November 2008 for $387 and paid $89 for the 2 year ‘No Questions Asked’ warranty. The thing took a major bite in less than a year, constantly cycling on and off, so I sent it back. It was replaced with what had to be a refurb which also had problems with shadows and lines on the page.

I sent this one back to Books on Board (online merchant) who pretty much ignored my emails requesting shipping dates & confirmation.

Today (Dec 10 2009) I got a message that Bookeen probably has their hands full meeting Christmas shipments and won’t get to mine until after Christmas. I suppose that has to do with the fact that I didn’t pay $387 for it - this time.

I say do NOT buy one, DON’T recommend one, and hassle them and smear them all over the ‘net so you can save some poor schmuck the expense and grief.
